Windows 7 commands

This article lists down the commands available in Windows 7. Most of the legacy commands of XP and Server 2003 are still applicable for Windows 7.

Commands in Windows 7:

At : Schedule tasks

attrib: Manage file attributes

cacls: Edit file access permissions

cd: change directories in command window

bcdedit: Edit Windows boot configuration

cipher : encrypt files

Defrag: Run defragmentation on disk partitions

Del: Delete files

find : search for a text pattern in files

findstr: Similar to find, but has more options.

format: Format logical volumes on the disk.

fsutil : Manage file system configuration

icacls: Manage file access permissions

ipconfig: Configure settings for network interfaces

mkdir: Create directory from command prompt.

mklink: Create symbolic links, hard links and junctions.

net: Configure user accounts/services on the system.

netsh: Configure network settings on the system.

powercfg:  Manage power settings.

reg: Edit registry keys/values from command line.

runas: Run a command with another user credentials

rmdir/rd: delete directories from command prompt

robocopy: We can do efficient file copy from Windows command line.

sc: control services

schtasks: Schedule tasks

shutdown: Reboot or shutdown Windows computer

start: start new command window and execute commands.

systeminfo: Retrieve system hardware and system information

tasklist: List process running on the computer

taskkill: Kill process from command prompt

tzutil: Modify time zone and day light savings time.

xcopy: Copy files and directories in command prompt
