How to customize your command prompt window

Each of the Windows OS features goes through lot of changes in terms of functionality and appearance with each new release. But the command window has been the same since Windows 2000.  It’s look has not changed in Windows 7 too. Compared to terminal applications available in Linux, windows command does not have some features like auto completion for commands.

Below you can find how one can customize the command window.

Opening command window properties

  • Right click on the title bar
  • Click on Properties. This opens command window properties window. This is the place where you can configure all the command window settings.

Increase command window buffer size
 
Open the command window properties as described above. Click on Layout tab. Under Screen buffer size change the values in Width and Height fields to set the desired buffer size.

Change command window size

In the command prompt properties window select Layout tab. Change the values of width and height under for the window size.
